Archive for August, 2012

In July, Shari from Klutch Club so graciously offered to send me a July Subscription Box to Review. As anyone who regularly reads this blog knows, I am a huge fan of subscription boxes. I think this is mainly because I love getting mail and I love the ailment of surprise that comes along with receiving a box of new goodies to try out!

With Klutch Club, you can sample and enjoy over $100 worth of products each month!

Pricing:

1 month subscription is just $18/box.

3 month subscription just $17/boz.

1 year subscription just $16/box

July Box: Compliments of Klutch Club!

“Healthy Summer Entertaining”

KLUTCHclub July box

My favorites in this box were:

  • Cascal. This is the perfect substitute if you are trying to give up pop!
  • Zoye vegetable oil. Perfect for cooking!
  • Goulibeur shortbread cookie. Delicious!
  • I also loved the fact that I received a $15 gift card for Mineral Hygenics…I love mineral make-up!

August Box: I opted to purchase an August box as well.

The theme of this box was “Health On-The-Go”

In this box, I absolutely lovd:

  • The seaweed salad. Perfect lunch-on-the-go
  • The Twistband. The twistband is a luxury hairstyle that actually does not leave a crease in your hair! I’ll have to admit, this is the first hair tye that I have come across that has actually lived up to this promise.
  • Go Nola- Wild Blueberry Wave. I love granola and blueberries. This was the perfect portion of granola for a snack on-the-go!

Overall, I really enjoyed KLUTCH club and I think you all will too!

KLUTCH club is great for yourself and great for a gift!

Are there any guy readers out there? If so, September is the launch of KLUTCHmen. Lsdies, I also think this would make a great gift for that special man in your life!

The other thing that I really like about KLUTCHclub is that you can preview the box online before you buy it. Decide if you like each month’s theme before you purchase…provided you don’t sign up for a 3 month or 1 year subscription.

Calling all RDs!

Hey! I’m currently back to living the life of a freelance journalist! I’m in the midst of writing a piece of how to pack a healthy lunch for school (that tastes great) and am looking for a registered dietitian to interview. The piece is for a small, yet nationally published teen magazine.

If you are an RD with 15-20 minutes to spare to answer some questions through e-mail, I’d greatly appreciate your help! Leave a comment below or e-mail me!

P.S. Regular posting to resume soon. I promise!

Where To Go from Here

Well, it seems like I’ve went from busy to not-so-busy. I wasn’t a big fan of my full-time job [that seemed like my ideal job on paper] so I’m hoping it’s a blessing in disguise that I was laid off today. Well, I was given the option of a lay-off or taking 6 weeks off and then becoming a part-time subcontractor. From a financial aspect, accepting a layoff is the better option. I kinda had a feeling this was coming based on the fact I was spending two hours in an 8 hour work day doing actual work. So thankfully, I revamped my resume and got it out there. I already have some phone interviews set up, although these jobs seem like long shots since I am slightly under qualified for them.

There is always the option of returning to life as a freelance writer. However, I’d have a lot of work to do to rebuild my client-base. When I took my full-time position, I pretty much gave up freelance writing.

I also have the option of exploring careers specifically related to my M.S. in Exercise Science and Health Promotion that I received last month.

Any suggestions?

Any one ever been in a similar situation?

Bridal Shower Success

Why hello long lost friends! I’ve been a busy, busy girl lately again. Here’s my weekend in pictures. My brother is getting married in October and the bridal shower was this past weekend. The hard work paid off and it was a success!

Balancing work (when you have to actually get out of your pajamas and leave the house to work) can be a little tricky. I’m not used to getting up, wearing clothes (other than workout clothes and sweats), leaving the house, sitting in traffic and being in an office for 8hours. It’s been a long two years since I’ve worked in an office setting!

Since I still like my sleep, breakfast is often eaten in my car or at my desk. I found this interesting little guy at Whole Foods yesterday. A chocolate chip Belgium waffle in a bag! It’s high protein and is indicated as a meal replacement. I had that along side some strawberry Gotein this morning. Plenty of protein to get me through to lunch without heading to the vending machine!

Check out this interesting watch! I haven’t worn a watch in years but when I saw this La Mer Collections watch on Rue La La, I decided to give watch-wearing a try again!

Are you a watch-wearer or do you use your phone to tell time?

What’s your favorite quick and easy breakfast?

Can I just say how extremely happy I was for some Larabars to arrive at my house! Unfortunately, they arrived in 90-degree heat so they were a little on the mushy side, but that did not stop me from enjoying them after I popped them in the freezer briefly.

I had the pleasure of trying Key Lime Pie, Chocolate Chip Cherry, Peanut Butter Chocolate Chip and Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough.

I’m a huge fan of anything PB, chocolate and cookie dough, so I really wasn’t surprised that I really enjoyed them! On the other hand, I have never tried anything key lime pie flavored so I wasn’t sure what to make of it. I tried it (I am willing to try anything). I enjoyed it!

Having never eaten a Larabar before, I must say I really enjoyed them. I enjoyed the flavors and I found them to be a great pre/post workout snack. They were also pretty filling, so they made for a great snack, when I knew I’d be eating a late lunch or dinner.

Overall, I’d recommend Larabar! They have a flavor for everyone!

The good news is one lucky reader will get to try out 16 different flavors of Larabars!

To enter:

  • Leave a comment telling me what flavor you really want to try.
  • Follow me on Twitter.@blogitness
  • Tweet about the giveaway.
  • Like Larabar on Facebook.
  • Follow Larabar on Twitter. @larabar

Please remember to leave a comment for each entry!

A winner will be chosen Sunday!

Good Luck!

Short On Time Workout

Only appropriate since I am majorly short on time this week! Enjoy!

Taking a summer vacay before autumn hits? Just because you’re out of your usual routine doesn’t mean your diet and exercise have to fall by the wayside. And just because you’re sticking to your diet doesn’t mean you can’t have fun. Here are my top 5 tips for staying fit while you’re away.

1. BYOW (Bring Your Own Workout)

Sure, you may not have the space in your suitcase to carry a medicine ball and a free weights set, but you CAN bring a jump rope or a workout DVD. When you have some down time, take them out and get moving. If you’re staying at a hotel, you should also take full advantage of its fitness facilities. Doing some laps in the pool could be a relaxing way to start the day.

2. Go for a Skinny Cocktail

Those margaritas and piña coladas are loaded with calories. Choose a lighter option like club soda and vodka or gin, a wine spritzer, or a bloody Mary. If you’re going to enjoy a high-cal cocktail, treat yourself to one and switch to a less indulgent drink.

3. Make Exercise Part of the Fun

Plan some activities that will keep you and your fellow vacationers moving. Go for a bike ride, a walking tour, a leisure swim, a kayak trip, a snorkeling adventure, or some local dance classes. Make your exercise part of your getaway’s events rather than a chore.

4. Pack Your Snacks

Skip that jumbo size bag of M&Ms from the minibar and bring your own snacks like nuts, granola bars, and dried fruit. It will also save you a few dollars along the way!

5. Stay Hydrated

Drink water, drink water, drink water. I probably can’t say it enough. But Drink Water! Staying hydrated will keep you feeling healthy and energized, and less likely to splurge. Plus, it will help you keep your glow in all of those vacation photos.

6. Keep Accountable

If you need some extra accountability, join an online weight loss community and check in with them whenever you’re feeling like you need a little boost of inspiration or motivation.

Have fun!

Yep, that’s me!

First off, while I am extremely disappointed that I did not get to attend the Pittsburgh Blogger Bash, so you must visit Claire’s blog for a recap. The pictures of lunch make me want to go to Habitat for lunch ASAP! I’m glad you ladies had a great time, I can’t wait for another meet-up. I’ve been brainstorming some more ideas for a fall meet-up. If you have any ideas, please leave a comment!

Now, back to the creepy girl me in Whole Foods. I’ve been to Whole Foods many of times, but have never eaten there. Since my work’s office is now located across the street from a Whole Foods, I decided to check it out for lunch. I noticed a lot of tofu on the menu and being a meat-eater, I really wasn’t impressed at first. Then, I came across macaroni and cheese. I’m a huge kid when it comes to mac and cheese. Since just a big ole plate of mac and cheese did not seem appropriate for lunch, I also opted for chicken and a mixed vegetable.

One bite of the mac and cheese and I was seriously hooked! It may be the best mac and cheese I have ever eaten.

Naturally, I needed to take a picture of this wonderful new find and only having my iPhone on me I figured it would be easily taken without people staring at me. For some reason the flash went off and an employee, who had his hand in the garbage can picking out the recyclables gave me an odd look. Oops (awkward blogging moment). But hey, I wasn’t the one with my bare hands in the trash can! Right?

Have you ever had an awkward blogging moment? Please share!
