What’s your current workout/fitness obsession? Last year, I used to love, love, love kickboxing classes at the gym. They were fun and a great workout, which is awesome. However, the gym that I enjoyed the kickboxing classes at became very inconvenient with work and other commitments, so it’s been awhile since I’ve partaken in this awesome activity.

However, the other day I found myself doing random kickboxing moves in the kitchen, which prompted me to do some googling for some home kickboxing options. I came across this great HIIT workout..

I would love for it to just stop raining. I swear it has rained nonstop for the past week! I think I dislike rain for two main reasons. One, on rainy days I feel like I should snuggle up in bed instead of working! Two, my hair frizzes to absolutely no end.

Any hair product recommendations for thick, curly hair that has a mind of it’s own in rain? I will seriously be forever indebted to the person who points me in the direction of a product that actually works!

While “working” — sometimes it’s pretending to work and I know everyone is guilty of it from time to time, I was browsing Pinterest and came across The Ninety-Nine Workout. It looks pretty intense! I really think the most difficult part for me would be the 11 minute run at the end! I don’t want to say I’ve given up on running, but I feel like every time I give it a go again I end up with a new injury or aggravate an old injury.

What do you think the hardest part of this workout would be for you?

workout.

Next, is the weather unbelievably hot, sunny and dry for anyone else? Actually I think a majority of you are going to answer yes to this! It seems to be making any outdoor activities less-than-enjoyable.

As some of you may know, I love coupons and getting stuff at a great price. When I found an offer for a free year of SHAPE magazine, I couldn’t refuse. Yesterday, I somehow received 3 issues May-July. I was pretty excited and dove right into the May issue as soon as I decided it was time to relax for the evening.

I found this workout-

A little walking and a little running, which is absolutely perfect for this summer heat! This is a great workout for outdoors and can even been done on a treadmill, which is perfect for gloomy days or days you’d just prefer to workout in air conditioning!

Speaking of loving a good deal: Nike Lunar Glide 2 Original Price: $100 Sale Price: $20. at the Nike Outlet. I’ve never been a fan of black sneakers, but when I put these on (and saw the price tag) I knew I had to have these!

What are your favorite colored sneakers?

Next on the list: I am looking to comprise a list of Pittsburgh Bloggers for a potential meet-up. If you are a Pittsburgh blogger and want on the list, please comment below. Or if you know of any Pittsburgh Bloggers, please link me to their blog. I’d love to reach out to them!

I’m on some kind of odd kick with bucket lists, but I swear this is my last one! I’ve been doing a ton or research for various work and freelance projects, which got me to thinking….what are somethings I’d like to accomplish in the fitness world? Since my job is health, fitness and nutrition related, I’d like to think that this should be fun and easy to accomplish. I spend hours each day writing articles telling people how to achieve their goals, I should be able to achieve mine!

Here’s my list:

1. Steeler’s 5k.

2. Obtain some sort of fitness certification. I’m opened to suggestions. What certifications do you have or want to obtain?

3. Pittsburgh Half Marathon….a long shot, but you never know!

4. Give crossfit a try.

5. Run a “fun” race like the Color Me Rad or Rock and Roll Marathon Series.

What are some of your fitness goals?

Perhaps you have searched high and low for the most effective form of exercise for you, only to come up short. With the large number of fitness programs and trends made available, you may be searching for years until you find something that truly works for you. In the days of long and boring cardio sessions, why not skip the boredom and give metabolic resistance training a try?

Numerous studies have found that metabolic resistance training to be one of the most effective training techniques for those looking to shed fat. This training style, also known as MRT, consists of fast-paced weight-training circuits sequenced so that muscles are worked in an alternating patterns — an upper-body exercise will be followed by a lower-body exercise and so on. When you use circuits to train with an elevated heart rate without much recovery, you are doing metabolic resistance training. Think a lot of work at one time without a lot of rest in between sets.

Studies show that combining a healthy eating plan with MRT yields nearly 20 percent more fat loss than diet and aerobic exercise and nearly 30 percent more than those who decide only to eat healthy. All the more reason to try MRT, right?

To perform MRT, workouts should use a high time under tension of 45-60 seconds. Your training program should use relatively short resting periods. This is highly important increasing calorie expenditure and increasing your work load. What you need for fat loss:

1) An emphasis on building muscle, this doesn’t mean you have to bulk-up.

2) Hard work. Your muscles need to work hard in multiple movements and throughout multiple planes of motion.

3) Make muscles work fast and in a powerful fashion. This can increase the amount of calories you burn.

4) Make the metabolism work through short rest periods; this increases energy expenditure.

5) Make it non-traditional. Add in interval training of the entire body, which works more muscles and is more effective than traditional cardio.

Greetings from Chicago! (Ok not yet, actually greetings from the Pittsburgh International Airport). I’m heading to Chicago for a weekend of fun with some of my girls. Although, we had no idea the NATO conference would be there the same weekend. Wonder if we will see anything interesting.

By the way, aren’t my guest bloggers amazing?

While waiting for my flight, I did some reading and came across this:

Check it out at Run to the Finish. I am definitely a little late on this, but hey you can start your own 30 day challenge any day!

I love yoga. It feels great on my body. Plus it can help prevent injuries (which I am all too prone to). The one thing I don’t like about yoga is it’s cost. I don’t like gym yoga and studio yoga can be so expensive, so it is great to find some free yoga videos.

I can’t wait to get started! Monday is day one!

Are you a yoga fan?

Again, I swear the more blogs I read, the more food and snack addictions I develop. Maybe, I should stop reading blogs for awhile!

Snapea

These guys are highly addicting!

Might just be my new favorite peanut butter cup!

Anyways, I also think I have a serious Groupon addiction. My latest purchase is a package for a hot yoga studio within walking distance of my house, which sure beats the drive and paying to park (not too mention added exercise) at the current studio I have been going to. I feel like a yoga studio hopper, going where all the best deals are! I’m just exploring my options ;-)

What are your latest addictions?

Hot and Sweaty

Well…I really got my workout on yesterday! Hot yoga followed by a run (I’m still not sure what I was thinking), but I did it! I really enjoyed yoga (in a studio setting, I’ve done it in a gym before). Although, I’ve come to realize I am nowhere near as flexible as I used to be! Tonight, I’ll be taking the basics class. Last night, my friend (who convinced me to sign-up) and I opted for an all levels class and hid in the back of the room!

I rewarded myself with a trip to Whole Foods, where I’m pretty sure my grossness turned some heads! I tend to avoid that place. Why? I’m normally a coupon-using, bargain hunter when it comes to grocery shopping, but when I go in there I seem to lose all control and buy anything I see that look good…like the time I spent $5 on a microscopic muffin in the baked goods section, because it looked good. Actually, I didn’t know the price til I got to the register. I couldn’t figure what made my bill so high since I had only purchased a handful of granola bars and some mac and cheese. Note to self: never buy anything in there again without a price tag on it! I did get my foodie pen pal shopping done though!

Good morning! They let the penguins loose at the zoo yesterday…okay, not really loose, but they were out of their normal home and walking the side walks of the zoo! And attracted quite the crowd. Only fitting after the Pens beat Philly in Philly on Sat. I love a good hockey game!

This morning’s workout (I overslept and have a busy day week ahead of me). 10 Minute Leg Workout from FitSugar. Great for a quick workout…although I still wish my knee wasn’t killing me from skiing last week…it’s been a week and it still feels about the same –typical for my usual accident prone self.

I’ve y decided I want to purchase a longchamp bag for all my work stuff when I’m on-the-go. I’ve actually broken a few other bags/purses trying to stick my laptop and a zillion other things inside. Now, I need your help.

beige or black?

I’m sorta leaning towards beige in hopes that spring will be here soon. I figure I can always buy black later on if I’d like.

Well, got to run. Time to meet with an accountant and do my taxes!

Have a great day!
