Happy New Year! This weekend was a long and tiring weekend! De-Christmasing my house, NYE and New Year’s Day at my parent’s, I couldn’t keep my eyes open by about 10pm last night. NYE is always entertaining (since I really couldn’t drink on antibiotics, while I may have had one or two drinks). I’ve come to realize you don’t need to drink at all to be entertained on NYE. It sounds mean (and since I am far from perfect), but people watching is seriously so much fun.

We almost missed our reservation at a hibachi restaurant and since a couple of my friend’s friends did not show, we ended up seated (the 7 of us) with a random couple. They seriously played on an iPad through the entire meal and didn’t eat any of their food. They boxed it all about and took it to go. Hibachi isn’t cheap. I am certainly going to enjoy my meal, fresh! While this was odd, the girl walking down the street wearing only a bra and extremely short skirt took the cake. We actually had to do a double take. I thought I was seeing things for a minute!

Now that it is 2012, it’s time to get to work!  This morning, I had the crazy idea that I was going to do 100 squats. I did it! Although,  I may be stuck on my chair for awhile or waddling around like a duck all day. The rest of my workout is going to include a couple hour ice skating session later today.

My goals:

  • run a 5k (and hopefully many more)
  • eat breakfast every morning
  • hopefully avoid as many senseless injuries as possible, which may be easier said than done for me.
  • continue to further my freelance career.

How was your New Years?

Any exciting goals for 2012?

That might be a slight exaggeration, but I feel like this I’ve been living in doctor’s offices between strep, mono tests and a follow-up appointment for my foot. Despite the fact I spent a heck of a lot of time sitting around in waiting rooms, it’s been all good news!

  • antibiotics for strep.
  • no mono.
  • PRN on the foot!!

I’m cleared and encouraged to do absolutely anything I feel like I can handle on my foot. I had a feeling this is how it would turn out today. I was confident, so confident that I actually walked into a foot and ankle surgeon’s office wearing a pair of heels. I contemplated changing my shoes before I went to the visit, but then I figured they don’t hurt, I’m not sore, so I’ve got nothing to hide. I didn’t feel like I was doing anything wrong. I was just showing the doctor how awesome of a job he did. :)

I managed to get some shopping in at Urban Outfitters before the appointment. Urban Outfitters was having an awesome sale. Take an additional 50 percent all sale merchandise. I managed to get a purse and two shirts for just $20. Not a bad deal at all! Plus, lunch at the Pita Pit taking advantage of a Groupon I had purchased months ago.

Now it’s off to do some more ice skating. I am so much more comfortable with the idea of ice skating since I no longer have any more follow up appointments for my foot…unless of course I have a problem and feel the need to make one.

Can you believe it is almost the new year? 2011 flew by so quickly. Since I’m not well enough to be trying out any new exercises for my normal Tryin’ It Out Thursdays, I’ve seen year in review posts on a few other blogs and have decided to give it a try. Although, I am very happy to report that my mono test came back negative! Overall, I’d say 2011 was an awesome year. Here it goes:

Went to a ton of sporting events…I absolutely love Pittsburgh sports!!

Visited the Pittsburgh Zoo…I adore penguins!

Moved into my first home! (I closed at the end of 2010 and moved in January 2011)

Went ice skating for the first time in a very long time:

Decided to complete a second Master’s degree (M.S. Exercise Science and Health Promotion):

Strained my hamstring attempting to punt a football (looks like I won’t be making the Steelers anytime soon, ha) and found myself in PT:

Had foot surgery:

Started baking a lot (shocking, since I hated it up until a few months ago):

Held my first ever party at my house:

And, of course, started this blog! I’m excited to be able to share my life, thoughts, ideas, baking attempts and fitness knowledge with all of you! Thanks for reading!

What stands out in your 2011?

I worked yesterday and early this morning, so I could have a little fun this afternoon and that I did! (By the way, if you follow my regularly, pictures of my successful Ugly Sweater Christmas Party will be up tomorrow, I used my actual camera and I seemed to have misplaced it’s USB cord.)

Today’s adventures led to the Strip District. With lots of random little stores, filled with plenty of Steeler and Penguin gear along with unique grocery stores — like Mexican and Chinese grocery stores. The strip district also hosts many small diners, which I’ve actually never been in despite the fact that I have been living in Pittsburgh my entire life,  all 26.5 years of it! Sometimes exploring your own city can be just as exciting as traveling somewhere new. Although, I’d still love to get back to Chicago or NYC soon.  We had breakfast at a small diner, an upcoming movie was actually filmed here. I had Caramel Apple Crepes. It was amazing, sweet and packed-full of more calories than anyone should probably ever eat at one sitting.

Then it was time for some calorie-burning ice skating!! Two hours on ice skates, just 8weeks after surgery (surprisingly it really wasn’t painful at all, although I’m icing as a precaution right now. I may be sore in the morning.)  According to Glamour’s Calorie Calculator, I burned 800.14 calories in two hours of  moderately intense ice skating. I’ll take it!
