To help achieve my fitness goals without re-injuring my recently repaired foot, I am slowly easing my way back into working out, building up strength and building up endurance before I begin to run. This cardio/strength workout is yet another great find off of Pinterest. I actually did this while watching the news this morning.

I found it to be a great variety. It was challenging, but not painful (aside from black and blue knees I sustained from an ice skating mishap earlier this week, I went down gracefully attempting to be a show-off. Let’s just say I am not going to be a figure skater or a professional hockey player any time soon.) It seems the few years I have pretty much been an accident waiting to happen. Pretty much any form of exercise/physical activity I try eventually ends in some sort of mishap!

I’ve never been a huge fan of push-ups, so this workout actually got me to do them, which is a definite plus!

10 – Minute Glute and Hamstring Workout

-from FitSugar

I’m generally not one to participate in any quick or 10-minute style workouts, but I gave this one a try for the sake of my tight hamstrings.

This routine definitely wasn’t exciting, but it did feel great on the hamstrings. I think in the future I’d probably use some of these exercises to help prevent another strained hamstring.

This definitely wasn’t too exciting of a post! I’ve got major writer’s block this AM.

What do you do to get over writer’s block?

Do you find yourself plagued with a nagging injury?

If you’ve read any of my past entries, you are probably aware that I am recovering from foot surgery. I’m feeling great, but still experience a lot of swelling from time-to-time.  In my recovery journey, I’m a quest to find workouts that are fun and don’t require a trip to the gym (I moved last year and don’t really like any of the gyms that are extremely convenient for me). So I figured, why not post what I’ve tried?

This week’s exercise is from Fitness Magazine.

The workout: Alison Sweeney’s Couch Workout

What You’ll Need:

  • a couch
  • resistance band
  • jump rope (optional)

What I liked:

  • This workout is great if you have a TV show you love to watch, but can’t seem to make time for exercise and relaxation.
  • Loved the extra-credit sweat section for commercial breaks. Holding a plank for 60 seconds, jumping rope, jumping jacks, bicycle crunches, running up and down the stairs. I’ve never been a fan of watching commercials so this was perfect.
  • I also love that this workout uses a resistance band — easy to store and travel with.
  • The couch could easily be replaced with a bed or chair should you find yourself traveling and in a hotel room.
  • For me, this exercise was pretty pain free. That’s a huge plus — no effect on the feet!

My Only Pitfall:

  • I’d sometimes find myself stuck in a flamingo dip getting caught up in the TV action — which in a way is good! But what I’m getting at is that the television can be distracting!
